1–2. Software development and data analysis
Development involves building and maintaining software; analysis involves checking information and explaining what it means. Compare junior and senior requirements separately. Try a small application or a documented analysis before choosing a long training programme.
3–4. Cybersecurity and technical support
Security work includes different technical and governance specialisms. Support work develops experience in diagnosing problems and assisting users. Read the actual duties and prerequisites rather than assuming one short certificate provides entry to every role in either field.
5–6. Healthcare and engineering
These broad fields include professions with specific education, registration and practical-training requirements. Investigate the exact occupation and official pathway. A national shortage in a profession does not remove its entry conditions or guarantee a vacancy in your preferred town.
7–8. Energy-related trades and logistics
For energy and trade work, check recognised training, supervised experience and the scope of the role. In logistics, compare warehouse, planning, transport and management positions separately. They can require very different licences, schedules and experience.
9–10. Finance and digital marketing
Finance can range from transaction processing to regulated professional roles. Digital marketing includes content, research, campaign execution and analysis. Read the responsibilities behind the title and collect examples of work that fit your intended starting level.
Compare three realistic options
For each option, record entry requirements, training commitment, nearby or remote opportunities and a task you could try. Use current adverts to test assumptions and speak to people doing the work. Choose a next step that is affordable and verifiable rather than relying on a headline about demand.
